You may have Plantar Fasciitis
About Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis, a common cause of heel and arch pain, is caused by excessive stretching of the plantar fascia, a band of tissue running along the underside of the foot.
With Plantar Fasciitis, the pain is usually experienced on the bottom of the foot where the heel and arch meet. Pain is often worse first thing in the morning, or after prolonged rest when the plantar fascia has been able to contract. Pain may ease during the day as the plantar fascia is stretched.
Plantar Fasciitis occurs upon weight-bearing during the walking process when the arch collapses, causing the plantar fascia to be stretched away from the heel.

Causes
Whilst Plantar Fasciitis can be caused by both flat and high-arched feet, it often results from wearing ill-fitting footwear (including high heels), walking, standing or running on hard surfaces and being overweight.
We can help!
The most effective treatment for Plantar Fasciitis is wearing the right combination of custom arch supports and comfortable, properly fitted footwear.
Our highly trained consultants use hi-tech foot scanning equipment and gait analysis to ensure that you have the perfect support for comfortable, pain-free mobility.
Why are custom Inserts worn with quality fitted footwear so effective against Plantar Fasciitis pain?
The combination of custom inserts and quality footwear alleviates plantar fasciitis pain by (i) reducing stress on the inflamed plantar fascia, (ii) correcting abnormal foot postures, (iii) absorbing impact shock, and (iv) by evenly distributing body weight across the foot, which in turn stops the soft tissue from overstretching and allows it to heal.
Remember, at Foot Solutions Richmond we offer a one-stop-shop solution, which ensures that the custom arch supports we provide are designed to suit the contours of each foot and be compatible with recommended footwear most appropriate to your lifestyle needs.

What is Plantar Fasciitis?
Plantar fasciitis, which is the most common cause of heel pain, is inflammation caused by excessive stretching of the plantar fascia, a broad band of fibrous tissue running along the bottom of the foot from the heel bone to the forefoot. When the plantar fascia is excessively stretched it can cause plantar fasciitis and also lead to other conditions including heel pain, arch pain, and heel spurs.
With Plantar Fasciitis, the pain is usually experienced on the underside of the foot where the heel and arch meet. The pain is often most acute first thing in the morning, or after a long rest. This is because during rest the plantar fascia contracts back to its original shape. Pain often subsides as the day progresses and the plantar fascia continues to be stretched.
The Causes
Over-pronation (flat feet) is the leading cause of plantar fasciitis and occurs in the walking process when the arch collapses upon weight bearing, causing the plantar fascia to be stretched away from the heel bone.
Other causes of plantar fasciitis include:
- Wearing ill-fitting shoes
- Having high arches or flat feet
- Walking, standing or running for long periods of time, especially on hard surfaces
- Being overweight
- Tight calf muscles or Achilles tendons.
What is the Best Plantar Fasciitis Treatment?
There are many ways to help treat and prevent plantar fasciitis:
- Wearing custom arch supports with footwear
- Regularly stretching calf muscles
- Wearing well-constructed supportive footwear, especially during long periods of walking or standing
- Using night splints to keep the plantar fascia stretched overnight
- Icing and elevating the heel when resting.
